Vibrio cholerae O1 Variant with Reduced Susceptibility to Ciprofloxacin, Western Africa

چکیده
likely acquired when animals were housed in enclosures previously occupied by infected raccoons or when bedding or food became contaminated with B. procyonis–infected raccoon feces. In B. procyonis–endemic areas, cages used to house raccoons should be thoroughly decontaminated by fl aming, or cages should be dedicated for use by raccoons. Because B. procyonis roundworms can spread to other animals, persons in contact with raccoons should be alert to potential transmission routes and apply appropriate biosecurity procedures.

Multi-drug resistant Vibrio cholerae O1 variant El Tor isolated in northern Vietnam between 2007 and 2010
Since 2007, there has been a re-emergence of cholera outbreaks in northern Vietnam. To understand the molecular epidemiological relatedness and determine the antibiotic susceptibility profiles of responsible V. cholerae O1 outbreak strains, a representative collection of 100 V. cholerae O1 strains was characterized. V. cholerae O1 strains isolated from diarrhoeal patients in northern Vietnam be...
متن کاملComparative Characterization of Vibrio cholerae O1 from Five Sub-Saharan African Countries Using Various Phenotypic and Genotypic Techniques.
We used standardized methodologies to characterize Vibrio cholerae O1 isolates from Guinea, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Togo, Côte d'Ivoire and Mozambique. We investigated 257 human isolates collected in 2010 to 2013. DRC isolates serotyped O1 Inaba, while isolates from other countries serotyped O1 Ogawa. All isolates were biotype El Tor and positive for cholera toxin. All isolates ...
متن کاملVibrio cholerae O1 with Reduced Susceptibility to Ciprofloxacin and Azithromycin Isolated from a Rural Coastal Area of Bangladesh
Cholera outbreaks occur each year in the remote coastal areas of Bangladesh and epidemiological surveillance and routine monitoring of cholera in these areas is challenging. In this study, a total of 97 Vibrio cholerae O1 isolates from Mathbaria, Bangladesh, collected during 2010 and 2014 were analyzed for phenotypic and genotypic traits, including antimicrobial susceptibility. Of the 97 isolat...
متن کاملNovel multiple mutations in the topoisomerase gene of Haitian variant Vibrio cholerae O1.
Cholera has reinstated its deadly grip on the planet with recent epidemics in Zimbabwe and Haiti (1, 2), along with the emergence of Vibrio cholerae having reduced susceptibility to fluoroquinolones. India also experiences frequent outbreaks caused by multidrug-resistant V. cholerae (3). We report reduced sensitivity to ciprofloxacin in V. cholerae O1 El Tor Ogawa and novel multiple mutations i...
متن کاملCholera Outbreaks in Nigeria Are Associated with Multidrug Resistant Atypical El Tor and Non-O1/Non-O139 Vibrio cholerae
BACKGROUND The current millennium has seen a steep rise in the number, size and case-fatalities of cholera outbreaks in many African countries. Over 40,000 cases of cholera were reported from Nigeria in 2010. Variants of Vibrio cholerae O1 El Tor biotype have emerged but very little is known about strains causing cholera outbreaks in West Africa, which is crucial for the implementation of inter...
